If you plan on getting a small fish tank, you probably want to know how many fish you can put in it. This article will explain how many fish can be in a 2 gallon tank.
How many fish can be in a 2 gallon tank?
You can have up to 2 fish in a two gallon fish tank. If you only have a 2 gallon tank, we recommend small fish such as guppies, minnows, tetra fish, and small goldfish.
If your fish are not longer than an inch, you can fit 3 fish in a 2 gallon tank.
Cheapest place to buy a 2 gallon tank
The cheapest place to buy a 2 gallon tank is definitely on amazon. My two favorite are the AquaView and the Penn Plax Prism.
This tank is awesome. It is visible 360 degrees, and comes with an LED light and a power filter.
This is a little fancy, but it features an awesome viewing area and has a built in filter.
If you have a 2 gallon fish tank, you will not be able to house a lot of plants. We recommend only putting 1 or 2 live plants in a 2 gallon fish tank.
If you are going to put plants in a 2 gallon fish tank, we recommend hardy plants that don’t require much maintenance. This is because with a small 2 gallon fish tank, the water is very sensitive, and therefore constantly maintaining a plant could mess up the water levels.
It is possible to have up to 4 or 5 fish in a 2 gallon tank, but they must not exceed a length of 1 inch. If there are too many fish in a tank, they will produce too much waste and the water will become toxic.
Best Decorations For a 2 Gallon Tank
While 2 gallon tanks are certainly not the biggest, there is still plenty of room to add decorations. Aside from aesthetics, decorations also help keep your fish happy and active. How many fish can be in a fish tank rule
There used to be a rule for fish tanks called the inch per gallon rule. Basically, this meant that you can have a one inch fish for every gallon of the fish tank. So if you had a 2 gallon fish tank you could have 2 one inch fish.
However, this rule is very outdated and over simplifies a fish tank. Certain types of fishes need a different amount of space. For example, one betta fish needs at least 3 gallons of water.
On the other side, guppies can survive in fish tanks that are smaller than one gallon. Also, some fish require aquatic plants which will inherently require more water.
Fish that can go in a 2.5 gallon tank
There are plenty of different types of fish that can go in a 2 or 2.5 gallon tank. Some of the best species for this sized tank are:
- Guppies
- Betta fish
- Neon Tetras
- Minnows
- Danios
- Platies
