How to Install Glofish LED Light

Setting up a GloFish LED light is an awesome way to add vibrant colors to your fish tank. GloFish are genetically modified to glow under these lights, so it is a great way to brighten up their colors. While I certainly recommend the LED light for anyone with glofish, it can be hard to set up. Today’s article will review exactly how to set up a glofish LED light.

How to Install Glofish LED Light?

To set up the Glofish LED light, you must line the light up horizontal to the trim of the aquarium. Make sure the end with the lip is on the bottom.

Below is a picture of how the light should be positioned. You will want the curved lip side facing downward.

Once you have the light lined up, I suggest you put your four fingers against the light, and then your thumb on the backside of the fish tank. Below is a picture of how you should position your hand.

Once you have a good grip, squeeze your four fingers toward the rim of the fish tank. You should use your thumb as a leverage point to position and pull the light towards the trim.

Hopefully, your light will easily snap into place. If you are having trouble snapping the light into place, you might need to use two hands. I suggest that you put one hand at each end of the light. The key is to make sure that the light is lined up correctly so that you can snap it in.

The last step is just to use the additional clips to guide the cord to the nearest outlet. You can easily snap the clips to the edge of the aquarium.

Once in place, plug it in and press the button to turn on the lights. The lights will also illuminate the glofish backgrounds.

Gofish LED light won’t attach to aquarium

If you are having trouble attaching your Glofish light to your aquarium, don’t panic. I actually had the same problem myself.

I was extremely frustrated because the clip on the light was not thick enough to clip onto the trim. There also isn’t anything useful in the instruction manual, so you might get pretty annoyed. Luckily, I was able to fix this with an easy tip.

All I did was slide some quarters into the clip to help expand it. I left the quarters in the light clip for a day to give it enough time to expand the plastic.

Below is a picture after I set it up.

Once the clip has expanded, it should be easier to clip onto your aquarium. Simply remove the quarters, and then follow the steps listed above to attach the light.

If it still doesn’t fit, I suggest you add more quarters and try again after a couple hours.

Other tips

I suggest that you position the light in the center of the tank. This will help evenly disperse the light throughout the entire tank. Also, the clip doesn’t really slide once it is attached, so make sure you position it in a place that you like, or else you’ll have to remove and attach it again.

The light is waterproof, so you can set it under the water if you like. I personally keep my light an inch above the water, as I’ve found it illuminates the tank adequately, and it probably lasts longer not being submerged. I also don’t want my fish to be able to touch the light.

Lastly, since glofish don’t need light at night, you shouldn’t keep the light on for the entire night.

Conclusion

Glofish lights are a great glofish tank accessory if you want to reach your tanks full potential. I hope this article helped guide you through how to attach your Glofish LED light. The steps listed above should be applicable for just about all fish tank lights.

If you have glofish, I suggest you go with the Glofish LED lights since the blue colors are specifically designed to enhance the color of your glofish.

As I mentioned above, don’t get discouraged if your glofish light doesn’t fit right away. Try to expand the width of the clip with quarters, and it should fit on afterwards.

If you are still unable to attach your lights with the clip, you can try attaching the light with either glue or duct tape. You can also try returning the light and ordering another one.
