The BEST Glofish Accessories

glofish accessories

If you decide to put glofish in your tank, it is important that you have all of the important glofish accessories. In this article, I will review some of the most popular glofish accessories that I recommend you check out.

Glofish accessories

In terms of accessories, every glofish tank should have a heater, filter, and substrate. I also suggest adding an air stone, led lights, and decorations.

Heater

The most important accessory for a glofish tank is a heater. Glofish must live in water that is around 78 degrees. Since the average room temperature is 68 degrees, you must have a heater to keep your glofish happy and healthy.

Make sure that you get an strong enough heater for your tank size. Bigger tanks will require more powerful heaters. My recommendation is the Aqueon 100 watt heater. It can heat glofish tanks of up to 30 gallons. There is also a 200 watt option that can heat tanks up to 75 gallons.

What’s great about this heat is that it is preset to 78 degrees, which is the perfect temperature for glofish. This means you don’t have to mess around with any buttons or switches to make sure the heater is set on the right temperature. It automatically turns off when the water gets too hot, and then kicks back on when the water falls below 78 degrees.

Filter

Another essential accessory for a glofish tank is a filter. It helps remove dangerous compounds from your tank water, which helps prevent your glofish from developing disease. It also helps keep your water clean.

Similar to a heater, the type and power of your filter will be dependent on the size of your tank.

If you don’t have a filter, your glofish will get stressed and start developing strange behaviors, such as swimming sideways. It can also cause them to die easily.

It’s important that you clean your filter every couple of months to help maintain proper functionality. You can learn more in my guide on how to clean a glofish tank.

Substrate

While it is often overlooked, substrate is also an essential accessory for your glofish tank. Not only is substrate more natural to a fish’s habitat, but is also allows a place for beneficial bacteria to grow. This plays an important role in the nitrogen cycle, which helps maintain healthy water in your tank.

Substrate can also make it easier for you to put plants and decorations in your tank. My favorite substrate is glofish aquarium sand. It is black sand that has colorful pieces that glow in the dark under an LED light. While we are on the topic, we can continue on to our next accessory.

LED light

While it isn’t a necessity, the glofish LED light is a great way to add to the aesthetic of your tank. The light causes your glofish to glow in the dark. It can also help plants grow if you have any.

If you need any help installing the light, you should check out my guide on how to install the glofish LED light.

Decorations

There are also a lot of glofish tank decorations that glow in the dark under the LED light. They are relatively cheap, and help bring your tank to life, especially in the dark.

Decorations can also give your glofish places to rest and hide, which can reduce stress and help them live longer.

Air stone

Another really cool accessory is the glofish air stone. It is placed on the bottom of the tank and it shoots air bubbles up to the surface. It also has a light that points upward that looks like a sky light.

Not only does the air stone light up your tank, but it also has great health benefits for your glofish. It helps aerate the water, which in turn generates more oxygen in the water to help your glofish breathe.

I will say that it can be complicated to set up the air stone, so make sure to check out my guide on how to set up the glofish LED air stone.

I hope this article helped guide you through all of the important accessories you should have for your glofish tank. While some of them are essential for your glofish’s survival, others are just great additions to enhance the aesthetic of your tank.

This list is not exhaustive, and there are plenty of other accessories you can add to your tank that are not listed in this article.
